
The Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, short for Jordan, is a country in the Middle East. It borders Syria to the north, Iraq to the northeast, Saudi Arabia to the east and south, and Israel and the West Bank to the west. Along with Israel, there are borders along the shores of the Gulf of Aqaba and the Dead Sea.
Jordan is a modern country, Jordanian society is largely urbanized. The Kingdom is classified as a developing market with a free market economy
In ancient times, today's Jordan was home to several Semitic Canaanite-speaking ancient kingdoms, including the kingdom of Edom, the kingdom of Moab, the kingdom of David, and others. During various epochs of history, the region and the peoples have been controlled by powerful foreign empires, including the Akkadian Empire (2335-2193 BC), Ancient Egypt (15th to 13th centuries BC), the Hittite Empire (XIV and 13th century BC), the Middle Assyrian Kingdom (1365–1020 BC), the New Assyrian Kingdom (911–605 BC), the New Babylonian Kingdom (604–539 BC), the Achaemenid Empire (539 –332 BC) and for certain periods of time by the Israelites.
